Fun Fact

Bear has a “heart-shaped” marking on his forehead, making him the perfect therapy horse!

Meet BEAR, our very first therapy horse!

Known as “Clip Joint” on the Thoroughbred racetracks, this horse is a Chad Schumer, powerhouse! A 2014 baby, out of “Lady Grandeur” and “Lemon Drop Kid,” (who just happened to win the Belmont Stakes in 1999!)

Bear showed a strong racing career… until a torn tendon caused his early retirement.

Looking for “The One”

I began looking for my very first prospect; searching for that perfect horse. I was determined to find, “The One!” Not even aware that this horse would be “The One” to find me and become the heart and soul of my dream.

I sorted through numerous, retired Thoroughbreds, I actually overlooked Bear in a group of about 40 horses, but he noticed me and persisted!!

He followed me, nudged me, gave me the sweetest eyes and literally would not leave me alone. Needless to say, I picked him!

He was “The One!”

Bear was a tremendous Thoroughbred and stronger than I could have imagined. Sadly, he came with a serious bowed tendon injury and, on top of that, had contracted the horrible disease, EPM, which nearly killed him. He was so ill when he arrived at our farm that he was literally falling down every few steps he made.

It took over a year to rehab this incredible guy, but it was well worth it!

This is BEAR!

Bear is playful, yet kind and absolutely adores our clients! He is a true asset to our program!
